When I first got into music, I played drums. I had always wanted to be a drummer ever since I was a kid because I was a big Beatles fan, and wanted to be Ringo Starr. I had a crappy drum set and played all the time. My dad told me to get rid of the crappy set and then he would get me a new set. So, as a stupid 8 year old, I did; but he never got me the new set. I think he just wanted peace and quiet in the house.

Fast forward to 6th grade; I had decided that I wanted to get back into music, so I garbage picked an old acoustic guitar that only had 3 strings. For the next year, I taught myself how to play my favorite songs. My dad noticed my talent and decided that he needed to make good on his promise of the drum set, so he bought me my first electric guitar.

Over the next 6 months, I taught myself how to play guitar by ear and was able to play all of my favorite songs. Right along that time I became friends with Bob. Bob and I had some classes together in high school and had the same interest in music. I scammed him into learning to play bass so we can get a band together. We then recruited Matt to play drums for us and started as a cover band.

Within a year we had shows, fans, and our own music, and finally settled on the name Noozel. A few years later Bob left the band and our roadie Chris joined up. We played for 4 years under that name recording two EP’s and playing dozens of shows around the Chicagoland area. In 2001, Noozel called it quits due to creative differences within the band.

Shortly there after, I jammed with two old friends named Tim and J. They wanted to start a band because their bands had also just split. I told them that I was moving out of town and that I would not be able to join them. But that some day I would love to play with them because it was awesome jamming with them. Somewhere a tape of that session exists.

After that jam session, I moved down to Carbondale to go to college, and Tim and J formed Absolutely Perfect. Through college, I wrote lots of music and perfected my playing style. I also became totally obsessed with guitar effects and equipment. I love making crazy sounds and noises.

When I returned back from Carbondale, I joined up with another friend from an old local band and started a cover band just to play some shows and have a good time. I also decided to take a handful of guitar lessons from legendary guitarist, T.D. Clark. That guy is the Chuck Norris of the guitar world, A.K.A. totally amazing. I wish I could have taken more lessons from him and learned a bit more.

After some lineup changes in the cover band, I tried to recruit J and Randy of Absolutely Perfect to drum and sing for our cover band because I thought that they were the best of the best. I also figured that since their guitarist had left AP that they would be down for jammin’. Unfortunately they were still holding out to get AP back together. J had asked me to join them, but I was still hoping to get the cover band back together.

Finally one day I realized that the cover band was not going to happen and that I was not even happy doing it. That very day that I decided that, J messaged me about finding a guitar player. I told him that I had just given up on the cover band and would like to audition for AP. He said that they would come over that week and audition me.

Since then, I have never been happier jamming with this awesome, talented group of musicians, and have never written such good music. You all are in for a real treat when you come see the new Absolutely Perfect.
